Mecklenburg County
The region's largest locality, with the market towns of South Hill and Clarksville and most of Kerr Lake's Virginia shoreline. Microsoft's Boydton data-center campus is the county's biggest capital investment.
Brunswick County
Lawrenceville and I-85 farm country between South Hill and Emporia. The county promotes itself as the original home of Brunswick stew and hosts Saint Paul's College's former campus.
Greensville County
The rural county wrapped around Emporia where I-95 meets US 58, with Jarratt at its northern edge. Farmland, timber, and one of the state's major highway crossroads.
Emporia City
An independent city at the I-95 and US 58 interchange, the commercial and services hub for surrounding Greensville County. A long-standing travel stop between Richmond and the North Carolina line.
Lunenburg County
Victoria and Kenbridge in tobacco-and-timber country between Kerr Lake and the Southside Piedmont. Its $0.33 per $100 levy is among the lowest county real-estate rates in Virginia's TY2025 table.
Charlotte County
Charlotte Court House and Keysville among farms and hardwood timber on the region's northwestern edge. Red Hill, Patrick Henry's last home and burial place, sits near Brookneal in the county's west.
